Description

You can cycle from Ullapool to the start of the route, which would take you about an hour, bear in mind this is the main road and can be busy. There is a forest car park that you can leave your vehicle across from the Auchindrean bridge for an easier start.

As you go over the bridge, go through the gate on the left and follow the grass path parallel to the river, this is a nice warm-up ride to loosen off the limbs for what’s ahead.

You will come across some nice pools where if you’re brave enough to take a dip. The path becomes pretty narrow in places where you will need to walk with the bike. When you can jump back on and enjoy the track cycling through the trees. The track opens back up, keep left of the track and go through the gate and follow the path up to another pool with a lovely wee waterfall.

This is where it gets gritty…… you will need to carry your bike up the next part of the path when you get the chance jump back on. Take care on this part of the route as there are some nasty drops. You will come across some old bridges. We advise you not to try crossing them!!

You will soon be at a stunning view of the gorge where you can take in the views of Beinn Enaiglar and Sgurr Mor. You’re nearly at the top where you go through a gate and join the Cuileig path, this has mixed terrain before you come on to some great decent’s…hold on to your teeth!!!

Follow the track down the hill to the final gate. Cruise down the track to join a land rover track and follow the road to the right through the farm where you have a nice easy ride back across the bridge.

If you fancy a bit more, carry on past the farm and follow the road for another couple of miles where you can see more of the Lochside views, this will take you past some lovely wee farmhouses and back to the first bridge you pass on the main road.

This route is for mountain bikes only.
